Yvonne Austen

A lifelong practitioner of Yoga, Yvonne has studied with many different teachers in several different traditions and schools of Yoga. She has taught various student groups from young children, teenagers, pre and post-natal, prison groups as well as general classes for both beginner and intermediate students. Realising the limitations of teaching group classes Yvonne trained in Yoga Therapy with the Yoga Biomedical Trust/Life Centre in London with links to the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Therapy Institute in Mumbai through the teachings of its past Director, Dr Shrikrishna Bhushan Tengshe.  Currently practising as a Yoga Therapist in Fife, Scotland, working with individuals. The teachings of Shrikrishna are the backdrop for all Yvonne’s teaching and therapy work. Yvonne also worked as an Art Psychotherapist for 20 years with children and young people and the psychodynamic model also informs the yoga therapeutic practice.

Melanie began practising yoga in the early 1990’s, to try and improve a serious back condition. Her first yoga teacher introduced her to the Yoga For Health Foundation (YfHF) based at Ickwell Bury in Bedfordshire. After completing the Teacher Training with the YfHF in 1995 she then became a resident teacher at their residential centre. During her time there she continued her studies for the Remedial Teacher Training Course, which she completed in 1996. After leaving the YfHF she moved to Edinburgh, and completed an ITEC Diploma in Massage in 1997. She then trained with the Scottish Yoga Teachers Association (SYTA) completing her Diploma in 1999. In 2004 Melanie obtained her BWY Foundation Course 1 Tutor License and has subsequently run two BWY Foundation Courses in 2005 and 2007. Also in 2004 she completed the BWY Yoga for Children Certificate. In 2005 she completed both BWY, Yoga for Pregnancy Teaching Certificate and the Teaching Teachers Yoga for Children Module, with Judy Cameron and Swami Vedantananda Saraswati respectively. In 2015 she completed a Level 3 Diploma in GP Referral.
